Progress and update of works and relocations

Level 2 meeting space - Coombs building

We are very pleased to report office spaces are now ready for occupation in the south hexagon of the Coombs building. This follows an inspection late Friday to confirm the readiness of this section of the building following significant construction works over several months.

Following this approval, relocation of the current occupants of the middle or east hexagon of the building will commence from today, Monday 5 August.

This relocation throughout August will involve 15 to 20 colleagues a day being moved and affect members of the School of Culture, History and Language (CHL), the Department of Pacific Affairs (DPA) at the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs and the Indonesia Project at the Crawford School of Public Policy.

If you are affected by the relocation, you will have been contacted and now have tailored information about the timing of your specific move from Suzy Andrew in CHL, Hannah McMahon in DPA or Olivia Cable in the Indonesia Project.

Some minor defects such as minor scratches or paint chips in the south hexagon were detected as part of the walk-through process and are being addressed. While we hope to address these outside of normal office hours you may see some tradespeople on site over the coming weeks.

The teaching spaces in the south hexagon are still under construction and we expect the opening of these spaces in early November. Once released we will be asking representatives from across the college to review and test these spaces.

While members of the college should feel free to informally explore the spaces from next week onwards, following the full completion of the south hexagon area of the Coombs building, we look forward to offering you all a guided tour.

I’m sure you’ll agree from the pictures, the renovation looks terrific. The space is very light and the carpet colours align with the level which is consistent with maps which will be put in areas across the building at a later point.

If you experience any issues as a result of your move please contact the facilities team on (02) 6125 0107 or
